From June 5 to 6, 2026, the China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy (CIIDS) successfully hosted the 3rd China-U.S.-Southeast Asia Trilateral Think Tank Meeting (Trilateral Meeting) at CIIDS headquarters in Beijing.

A total of 24 experts and scholars from 12 prominent think tanks in China, the United States, Singapore and Indonesia engaged in candid, substantive and in-depth discussions on three major topics: New Developments and Future Prospects in China-U.S. and Southeast Asia Relations, Regional Security Situation, and Globalization: Outlook and Future Directions. The exchanges were marked by active participation and a constructive atmosphere.
Participants unanimously agreed that, amid an increasingly complex and volatile global geopolitical landscape, such Track II dialogues among think tanks hold unique value. The Trilateral Meeting helps reduce perceptual gaps, enhance mutual understanding, and build effective channels of communication for managing differences and advancing cooperation. Participants also agreed this year’s one-and-a-half-day event has yielded fruitful outcomes, deepened mutual understanding, and expanded areas of consensus.
The Trilateral Meeting was jointly initiated in 2023 by Mr. Wang Boyong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIIDS, and Mme. Chan Heng Chee, Ambassador-at-Large of Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chair of the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute. It has since evolved into a regular annual mechanism hosted on a rotating basis by the three participating parties. Its role as an important Track II platform for advancing the building of a community with a shared future for humanity has become firmly established. The first and second Trilateral Meeting were successfully held in Singapore and Indonesia respectively in 2024 and 2025. The fourth edition will take place in the United States in 2027.
