On July 10, CIIDS Founding Chairman Zheng Bijian met with Mr. Henry Paulson, Chairman of the Paulson Institute and former US Treasury Secretary, at CIIDS head office in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on China-US relations among other issues of shared interest.
Zheng Bijian spoke highly of the efforts and contributions made by Mr. Henry Paulson and the Paulson Institute over the years in promoting China-US exchanges and cooperation. He pointed out that the current complexity of China-US relations is unprecedented, and both sides need to establish a correct understanding of each other and explore common interests through in-depth efforts to “understand China”, “understand the United States” and “understand the world”.
Mr. Paulson acknowledged the importance and complexity of US-China relations, and stated that the Paulson Institute has always been committed to promoting exchanges and cooperation between the US and China in various fields such as economy, environment and people-to-people and cultural exchanges. He expressed expectation for future cooperation with Founding Chairman Zheng Bijian and CIIDS to promote mutual understanding and rebuild mutual trust between the US and China, so as to jointly contribute to the healthy and stable development of US-China relations and world peace and prosperity at large.
CIIDS Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Mr. Wang Boyong, CIIDS Vice Chairman Mr. Feng Wei, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of the Paulson Institute Ms. Deborah Lehr, and Chief Operating Officer of the Paulson Institute Ms. Kelley Turner Folino attended the meeting.
