On the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), CCTV-4's "TALK WITH LUJIAN" program hosted an interview with Zheng Bijian, Founding Chairman of CIIDS and Chairman of the Institute’s Academic Committee and former Executive Vice President of the CPC Central Party School. The Talk centered on the theme of "Understanding China" in the contemporary era.
When addressing questions touching on the uncertainties of the future, Zheng Bijian shared his insights on how to reduce the "understanding deficit", how to "comprehend the Chinese modernization", and how China-U.S. relations can avoid miscalculations, especially in the context of the Understanding China Conference, the flagship event that CIIDS launched in 2013. Zheng emphasized that China promotes global development through cooperation rather than confrontation, offering Chinese solutions to make significant contributions to the transformation of the international order.
Quoting the poetic line by Zheng Banqiao (1693-1766), the celebrated Qing Dynasty "poet-painter-calligrapher", Zheng Bijian described the guiding principle behind CIIDS’s decade-long endeavor of "Understanding China, Understanding the Communist Party of China" as "咬定青山不放松"—a phrase that epitomizes CIIDS’s unwavering resolve. This borrowed philosophical line, depicting bamboos holding steadfastly onto rocks, symbolizes both the resilience of the undertaking of "Understanding China" in overcoming challenges and the unwavering focus of China's development. Zheng has encapsulated these ideas in his latest book, which bears the same title of "咬定青山不放松".
The interview was jointly planned by CIIDS and CCTV-4. It was aired globally on July 4 on CCTV-4 and the network's new media platforms.
